Our story

From Burton's, 1975,
to Second Cycle today.

A North Hobart appliance family – and over 30 years' experience in the trade.

Where it began

Our story starts in 1975, when Mick's mum and dad opened the family appliance business in North Hobart under the family name: Burton's. Fridges, freezers, washing machines and colour TVs filled the shop windows, alongside demo models and ex-rental stock.

Burton's did more than sell. The old sign lists repairs, trade-ups, rentals and terms – and that hands-on, look-after-the-customer approach is still how we work today.

A new chapter

After the original shop closed for a while, Mick brought the family trade back to life around 2014 under a new name: Second Cycle Appliances. The name says what we do – giving good appliances a second life.

Today we recondition, test and sell quality second-hand fridges, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, ovens and cooktops from our shop at 26 Letitia Street. Reconditioned appliances come with a warranty, and we can deliver and take your old one away.
